Ethiopia
The birthplace of coffee. Ethiopian coffees are famous for floral, tea-like aromatics, bright citrus and stone-fruit acidity, and a delicate, elegant body — especially the washed lots from Yirgacheffe and the fruit-forward naturals from Guji and Sidamo.
Ethiopia Yirgacheffe by Coffee Beautiful
Yirgacheffe coffee is a wet-processed coffee grown at elevations from 1,700 to 2,200 meters above sea level and is considered the best high-grown coffee in southern Ethiopia, an exotic coffee region known for its fine coffees. These elevations qualify Yirgacheffes as Strictly High Grown (SHG) / Strictly Hard Bean (SHB) coffees, where coffees grow slowly due to the altitude, allowing additional time for the tree to deliver nutrients to the coffee and develop the best flavours.
The Coffee Beautiful Yirgacheffe coffee comes from Negele Gurbitu, the Yirgacheffe region which enjoys a wonderful reputation and has become world-famous.
Grown very high up around 1700 to 2000 meters above sea level, this single-origin coffee has been harvested between October and December and is fully washed. The coffee trees are of the fantastic Heirloom variety.
This fine Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee displays a bright acidity along with intense, clean tastes and a complexity of floral notes in the aroma, sometimes with a hint of toasted coconut. Cupping notes frequently mention the aftertaste being vibrant, and the coffee may exhibit undertones of Earl Grey tea and sometimes whiskey or wine.
Expect funky and floral flavours; be excited for Earl Grey tea and whiskey!
Frequently asked questions
How fresh is your coffee?
All our coffee is roasted in small batches here in the UK and dispatched fresh, so it reaches you in peak condition. For the best flavour, enjoy your beans within a few weeks of opening and keep them somewhere cool and dark.
How should I store my coffee?
Keep your coffee in an airtight container somewhere cool, dark and dry, away from heat and moisture. Avoid the fridge or freezer once the bag is opened, as condensation dulls the flavour. Whole beans stay fresher for longer than pre-ground.
Which grind should I choose?
Match the grind to how you brew: Whole Beans if you grind fresh at home; Espresso/Moka Pot for a fine grind; Filter/AeroPress for medium; French Press/Clever Dripper for coarse; Pods; or Cold Brew for a coarse grind. If in doubt, Whole Beans give you the most flavour and flexibility.
Which coffees suit espresso, and which suit pour-over?
Our blends are built for high-pressure brewing — espresso machines, Moka pots and AeroPress — where their body and sweetness shine. Our single origins are lighter and more aromatic, and are at their best in gravity brewers like the V60, Chemex and filter. Many coffees work well across both, so feel free to experiment.
Do you offer decaf?
Yes — our decaf coffees are decaffeinated using chemical-free water processes (Swiss Water and Mountain Water), which remove the caffeine while keeping the flavour, so you get a full-bodied cup with none of the buzz.
When will my coffee arrive?
Next-day UK delivery is £2.95, and free on coffee orders over £30. Order by 2pm and we'll dispatch the same working day. Every order is tracked, with a tracking number sent to you.
What if I order coffee and equipment together?
No problem at all. If your order includes both coffee and equipment, the items may be dispatched separately and could arrive on different days — but each will be on its way to you as quickly as possible.
