Costa Rica Tarrazu San Rafael by Coffee Beautiful
Due south of San José, you will find the majestic mountains of Tarrazú. Sheltered between the Pacific Coast, the Central Valley and the high peaks of the country's central mountain range, Tarrazú is one of the world's most famous coffee-growing regions. This magnificent area, fondly known as the Area of the Saints, is considered to yield the most superb Strictly Hard Bean coffees in Costa Rica, grown at altitudes between 3,650 to 5,900 feet.
The rich volcanic soil, the high altitude, and the perfect combination of sunlight, temperature, and precipitation provide the essential components to produce an exceptional coffee.
Coffee Beautiful Tarrazu San Rafael is a washed coffee with a good creamy body and notes of plums and subtle dark chocolate. An espresso preparation will yield wonderful fruity citrus notes with a pleasant lemon acidity.
Frequently asked questions
How fresh is your coffee?
All our coffee is roasted in small batches here in the UK and dispatched fresh, so it reaches you in peak condition. For the best flavour, enjoy your beans within a few weeks of opening and keep them somewhere cool and dark.
How should I store my coffee?
Keep your coffee in an airtight container somewhere cool, dark and dry, away from heat and moisture. Avoid the fridge or freezer once the bag is opened, as condensation dulls the flavour. Whole beans stay fresher for longer than pre-ground.
Which grind should I choose?
Match the grind to how you brew: Whole Beans if you grind fresh at home; Espresso/Moka Pot for a fine grind; Filter/AeroPress for medium; French Press/Clever Dripper for coarse; Pods; or Cold Brew for a coarse grind. If in doubt, Whole Beans give you the most flavour and flexibility.
Which coffees suit espresso, and which suit pour-over?
Our blends are built for high-pressure brewing — espresso machines, Moka pots and AeroPress — where their body and sweetness shine. Our single origins are lighter and more aromatic, and are at their best in gravity brewers like the V60, Chemex and filter. Many coffees work well across both, so feel free to experiment.
Do you offer decaf?
Yes — our decaf coffees are decaffeinated using chemical-free water processes (Swiss Water and Mountain Water), which remove the caffeine while keeping the flavour, so you get a full-bodied cup with none of the buzz.
When will my coffee arrive?
Next-day UK delivery is £2.95, and free on coffee orders over £30. Order by 2pm and we'll dispatch the same working day. Every order is tracked, with a tracking number sent to you.
What if I order coffee and equipment together?
No problem at all. If your order includes both coffee and equipment, the items may be dispatched separately and could arrive on different days — but each will be on its way to you as quickly as possible.
