TIMEMORE
A proper cafetière, sized for one or two
At 450ml, the U makes two mugs or one big one, enough for a weekday morning without leftovers going cold in the jug. It stands 18cm tall and weighs 340g, so it sits neatly beside the kettle, on a desk or in a weekend bag, in a choice of matt black or white.
TIMEMORE
A 0.35mm steel mesh for a cleaner cup
The filter uses high-density stainless steel mesh with 0.35mm openings: fine enough to hold back most grounds, open enough to let coffee's natural oils through for the rounded body a French press is known for. Grind coarse and plunge gently rather than forcing it to the bottom for the cleanest result.
TIMEMORE
Glass where it matters, a sleeve where you hold it
Your coffee only touches borosilicate glass, stainless steel and food-grade silicone. A polypropylene sleeve wraps the glass, guarding it against knocks and giving you something to hold, while a slim window shows the brew level. The trade-off is no full-size handle, so pour steadily when it's full.
TIMEMORE
From the makers of the Chestnut grinders
Timemore built its reputation on hand grinders and scales that perform well above their price. The U brings the same thinking to the French press: a few well-chosen materials, a clean design and a price that leaves room in the budget for a good grinder, the single biggest upgrade to any immersion brew.

Frequently asked questions
How many mugs does the Timemore U French Press make?
It holds 450ml: two mugs, or one big one. That's a little more than a classic 3-cup cafetière. As a starting point, use 30g of coarsely ground coffee to 450g of water just off the boil (around 95°C, so let the kettle settle briefly), steep for four minutes, then plunge gently. Adjust the dose to taste before changing the grind.
Does the Timemore U French Press keep coffee hot?
It holds heat about as well as a glass cafetière with a protective sleeve, which is plenty for a four-minute brew and pouring straight away. It isn't vacuum insulated like a double-wall steel press, so if you want coffee to stay hot for an hour, decant it into a flask or choose an insulated cafetière.
Is the Timemore U French Press dishwasher safe?
Timemore doesn't state that it is, so we recommend hand-washing. Tip the grounds into the bin or compost rather than down the sink, then wash the glass and mesh in warm water with a drop of washing-up liquid. The filter assembly comes apart for an occasional deeper clean, which stops oils building up.
What should I do if the silicone ring on the plunger comes loose?
Press it back so it sits evenly in its groove around the filter before you plunge. One independent reviewer found the ring could work loose with regular use, so it's worth a quick check each time you reassemble the plunger after cleaning. A seated ring also keeps more grounds out of your cup.
Timemore U French Press vs Fellow Clara or ESPRO P7: which should I choose?
Choose the U if you brew one or two cups and want something light, compact and affordable. The Fellow Clara (680ml) and ESPRO P7 (532ml) are larger, double-walled stainless steel presses that keep coffee hot for longer and, in the P7's case, filter more finely, but they cost several times as much and weigh more than twice as much.

The Timemore U French Press is for anyone who wants a proper cafetière brew without a bulky jug: one person at home, two at breakfast, or a desk at work. Pair it with a coarse grind from a burr grinder for the cleanest cup, or explore the rest of the Timemore range. Brewing for three or more? A larger cafetière will suit you better.
